Food allergy and intolerance online training

6 November 2020

Online training specialist Indegu Ltd, have worked with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to redevelop their food allergy and intolerance e-learning. The updated training will help Local Authorities and food businesses get up to speed with the latest in food allergen information rules.

Worcestershire based professional e-learning specialists Indegu have created a bespoke online training platform for the FSA at https://allergytraining.food.gov.uk/, as part of their updated training for 2020. The project, which Indegu won through a rigorous tender process, has seen over 10,000 users on the online training platform in the first month since its launch.

Although this unique and free online training will predominately be used by local authority officers ,  and food businesses, the resource is available to anyone who wants to learn more about food allergies and intolerances.

Allergy is an important issue

Tracey Marlow-Jones, Founder and Director of Indegu Ltd explains “We appreciated the importance of this project from day one, providing critical information to help food businesses keep people living with food allergies and intolerances safe from potential risks.

By providing a Learning Management System and bespoke eLearning modules in English and Welsh, our team have successfully helped re-launch the FSA’s online Food Allergy and Intolerance training.”  She adds, “We were absolutely delighted to work with the FSA on this project and we hope that the new training platform will further help protect vulnerable individuals”.

Sushma Acharya, Head of Policy and Strategy for Food Hypersensitivity at the FSA said: ‘In the UK, approximately 1-2% of adults and 5-8% of children live with a food allergy and around 1 in 100 people have coeliac disease; this is why it is a top priority for us to provide quality online training, for Local Authorities and food businesses that is free and easy to use. The redeveloped training has the latest updates, including information on the new rules for prepacked for direct sale food, which will come into force next year.’

With the restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, online learning has risen in popularity at a rapid pace. This updated online training gives access to a 24/7 training facility at your fingertips along with the freedom to learn at your own pace.  Users who complete the training will receive an online Food Allergy Training Certificate and 3 Continuous Professional Development hours, ensuring that the additional skills gained by those individuals and businesses who seek compliance with the latest regulations are recognised.
